cover

The cities we have studied on are Janda Baik (Rural), Subang Jaya SS15 (Suburban) and Lowyat Plaza in KL (Urban). From this assignment, I have learned the difference between rural, suburban and urban cities.

This is the slide presentation for part b.

EJ 10 – Janda Baik Activities

A journal on the activities during the trip to Janda Baik. A very good experience with nature and learned a thing or two about architecture as well from the visits to ‘Kopi n Kraf’ and ‘d’Ark Resort’.

EJ 9 – Urban

In this journal, I was required to make an infographic with statistics on an urban city. I decided with Tokyo since I like that city. Along the process of doing this sketch, I have learned a lot on Tokyo and urban cities in general. An urban city is pretty much a concrete jungle with loads of citizens. There are many infrastructures and tall buildings in an urban city.

EJ 8 – Suburban

For this journal, I have printed out the satellite map of Bandar Menjalara & Taman Bukit Maluri then included pictures of some of the infrastructure and buildings there. From this journal,  I have learned how a suburban city looks like and what it comprises of. I have used photoshop to assemble the pictures and map together so perhaps I have improved my skill in using that software.

EJ 7 – Rural

This journal is an infomap of a rural area. There are not many landmarks in Sungai Bakap except the mosque and hospital. I have honed my sketching skill and learned what makes an area to be rural.

EJ 6 – Infrastructure

The journal illustrates how electricity is generated and how it flows to it’s consumers. I learned what infrastructure means and it’s importance for society.

EJ 5 – Building & Services

I was told to draw sketches of the building structural joints, service details and furniture in TULC. This helped me with my sketching skills and I have learned how these buildings are assembled from very small parts to make one complete structure. The function of every individual part is important to complete one product.

EJ 4 – Space

This journal involves taking pictures that relate to one word descriptions of space. I learned how different kinds of space can give off different kinds of feelings when the space is seen or stepped into.

Project 1(b) – Art Sculpture

For this project, the group members consists of me, Joshua, Ka Hoe and Hong Zhi. We were given the task to create a functional art sculpture from recycled materials. In the early stages, we had some trouble thinking of what to make but came through with Ka Hoe’s idea.

The idea was a lamp with recycled materials as decoration. We used plastic bottles, satay sticks and newspaper.

Unfortunately, our sculpture wasn’t accepted and we had to improve it. We came up with another idea which was a floor lamp. This time it was given an OK for the exhibition.

Skypark Exhibition

Held on the 16th September 2013 was the exhibition in Skypark Subang airport. The booth was set up with many other art sculptures. Apparently the bulb we have chosen was to hot that it started to melt the plastic. The lamp had to be switched off to prevent that from happening.

Throughout this assignment, I have learned a lot on recycled materials and how we can use them to save the environment. On another part, I have improved my knowledge on making an art sculpture. The tectonic feature of an object can be used to beautify or give a texture to it and doesn’t need to be hidden.
